Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of global biotechnology company Sanofi-Aventis said on Tuesday it will spend C$100 million to build a new research facility in North Toronto.
The new facility at the company’s Connaught Campus will focus on pediatric and cancer treatments.
The government of Ontario province will contribute C$13.9 million towards the project, which includes the construction of an C$80 million facility and the purchase of specialized research and development equipment.
It will support research and development jobs for the next five years.

Wayne Pisano, president and chief executive officer of Sanofi Aventis said the project demonstrates the company’s growing research and development capabilities in Canada.
“The Connaught Campus is already recognized globally for the research and development and manufacture of the five-component acellular pertussis vaccine,” he said.
Construction of the 165,000 square-foot facility is slated to begin later this year and should be completed by 2010.
