Philips to buy cardiac service company

Royal Philips Electronics has signed a $110 million agreement with SHL Telemedicine Ltd to buy its Raytel Cardiac Services and other ancillary operations.

Philips – a global leader in healthcare, lifestyle and technology, delivering products, services and solutions - will let SHL participate in future revenues from current Raytel services and certain new products and services for up to 9 years.

As part of the agreement Philips will also buy some adjacent businesses including its US cardiac monitoring activities.

Cardiac care

Raytel are a provider of home cardiac monitoring services.

Ron Feinstein, CEO of Philips' Home Healthcare Solutions business group said: "Raytel can help us extend the cardiac care cycle into the home, which is where patients prefer to stay, and where we see opportunities for addressing healthcare costs as well as quality of life issues.”

Philips owns an 18 pct stake in the Israeli provider of telemedicine solutions which is listed in Switzerland.

It said the activities it is acquiring are expected to have 2007 sales of about $55 million.

The deal, subject to regulatory approval, was expected to close in the fourth quarter.
