Colgan elected president of ASHP

ASHP members have selected Kevin J. Colgan, M.A., FASHP as ASHP’s president.

John A. Armitstead, M.S., FASHP, and Janet Mighty, MBA, were elected to three-year terms on the ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists) Board of Directors.

At EPI-Q, Colgan is responsible for clinical trials and disease and medication therapy management programs. He was previously director of pharmacy at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst, Ill., where he was responsible for the hospital, home care, and retail pharmacies and was co-chairman of the Investigational Review Board. His practice interests include cardiology, endocrinology, and performance measurement.

Colgan, a Fellow of ASHP, previously served the Society as a member of the Board of Directors, as Chair of the Council on Legal and Public Affairs, and as an Illinois delegate to the House of Delegates. He is a past president of the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists (ICHP) and assisted ASHP and ICHP in the creation of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

Armitstead is the director of pharmacy services at the University of Kentucky Hospital and assistant dean at the UK College of Pharmacy. He has served on the ASHP Council on Organizational Affairs and in the ASHP House of Delegates and is a Fellow of ASHP. He is a past president and board member of both the Ohio (OSHP) and Kentucky (KSHP) societies of health-system pharmacists.

Mighty is assistant director of Investigational Drug Services at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has served as Chair of the Council of Organizational Affairs (currently named the Commission on Affiliate Relations), as an alternate for the Committee on Nominations, and member of the House of Delegates. She is a past president of the Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Colgan will begin his appointment as president-elect immediately along with Teresa Hudson, Pharm.D., BCPP, FASHP, who was re-elected to a one-year term as Chair of the ASHP House of Delegates, and Paul Abramowitz, Pharm.D., FASHP, who was elected to a three-year term as Treasurer during the Society’s meeting of the House of Delegates in June. Armitstead and Mighty will begin their terms in June 2008.
